Support groups for trans youth in the UK & Ireland
There are many support groups across the UK & Ireland which support trans youth specifically, including trans children, adolescents and young adults. The following groups are predominantly support and advocacy groups for trans youth:
- Buoys NI
Buoys NI are a new social support group for trans men and trans-masculine, gender variant, non binary & questioning people,who were assigned female at birth (AFAB) aged 18 to 25. Buoys are run by Anchor NI (see below)
- Cara-Friend LGBT Youth NI
Previously called GLYNI, this is the youth arm of Cara-Friend, Northern Ireland’s oldest LGBTQ support organisation. GLYNI run regular social youth groups which are open to any LGBTQ people from 14 to 25 years old.
- Irish Trans* Students’ Alliance
ITSA is a peer-support group for students and young people (18-30) who are trans*, gender variant, intersex, questioning or exploring their gender identity, and partners of any of the above.
- Gendered Intelligence
GI is an organisation based in England which supports trans young people through a variety of youth groups and services.
- LGBT Youth Scotland
LGBT Youth Scotland run a large number of youth groups and support services across Scotland.
Support groups for family members of trans people in NI & Ireland
- SAIL NI
SAIL support the families of transgender and gender variant individuals across the Northern Ireland region.
TransparenCI support the families of transgender and gender variant individuals in Ireland.
Support groups for adult trans people in Northern Ireland

AffirmNI support transgender adults in Northern Ireland, predominantly in the Foyle (North-West) area.
- Anchor NI
Anchor are a social support group for trans men and trans-masculine, gender variant, non binary & questioning people,who were assigned female at birth (AFAB) aged 25 and over.
- Belfast Butterfly Club
The Belfast Butterfly Club supports trans and gender variant people and their families in the Belfast area.
Transderry is a project by the Rainbow Project to support transgender individuals in the Foyle (North-West) area.
